Windows Update KB5000802 Printing

There's a good chance that a recent Windows 10 update, KB 5000802, is the source of printing problems.

 

This is a world-wide problem affecting many programs and many printers.

A more recent Windows update, KB 5001649, fixes many of those problems.

 

To download and apply that update click the Windows "Start" button windows-key  (1)

 

then type (even though there's no obvious place to type)  WINVER (2)

 

and click the winver entry in the menu that pops up  (3)

Make a note of the Windows version. For example, this is Windows 10, Version 20H2

Open the Windows Edge Browser. (Only Edge Browser will work properly for this task)

In the resulting page, find your version of Windows.

(e.g.: Windows 10, version 20h2) Always select an x64-based Systems line (not x86 )

Click download  (3)

Click on the long windows10-kb50011649xxxxx  link to begin the download:

It's a large file, but you will see the progress at the bottom:

When it has completely downloaded, click ‘Show in Folder’

And double click to run that optional update

It might take a while and a few reboots, but if all goes well, you will see this screen:
