Networking and Sharing a Hard Drive using Windows 2000
======================================================
Windows 2000 networking is a bit more complicated than
some other versions of Windows.

which makes it easier to share Shop-Pro on your network.

*) Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop
*) Choose Manage
*) Within the System Tools section
Click the [+] sign next to: Local Users & Groups
*) Click the USERS Folder

If it is disabled it should have a red X
*) Right-Click Guest
*) Choose properties.
*) UNcheck "Account is Disabled"
*) Click Apply then click OK
Next Share the C: drive:
*) Open My-Computer and right-click the C: drive
*) From the drop-down menu choose Sharing
*) In the Share Name box - click the down-arrow icon
and see if you already have an entry of C
(not C$ - just C alone)
If you do have C then the drive is probably shared
already. If not -continue.
*)In the Sharing tab choose "New Share"
for the Share Name: type C (not $ just C)
*) Click Permissions and verify that the Name shows
Everyone and that the Allow box is checked for
Full Control
Change
Read
*) Choose OK to close the Permissions box
*) Choose OK to close the New Share box
*) Choose Apply in the Sharing tab
*) Choose OK to close the Sharing window.

Next check or change the workgroup name for your computer
Even if different computers have different versions of
Windows each computer needs to have the Same workgroup name
but a Different name for the computer itself. Different
Windows versions use different screens to set the Workgroup
and Computer name.
For Windows 2000
*) Right-click My Computer,
*) Choose Properties
*) Choose the Network Identification TAB
*) Click properties button
to see Computer Name:
Workgroup:
For the computer name select a simple name such as SERVER
for the main computer and names such as REGISTER or REPAIRS
or OFFICE for other computers.
For the Workgroup name select something simple such as
NETWORK or ACEJEWELERS - with no spaces
..................................................................
Next configure the other computers to connect to the main computer
*) At the OTHER computers, open Network Places or Network Neighborhood
at the top choose Tools then Map Network Drive, then choose a network
drive letter such as F:
*) If F: is already in use you could select G: or H: etc
*) For the folder box, choose Browse and
locate the main computer and SINGLE click on the shared drive/folder where
Shop-pro is installed just to highlight it and then click the OK button
*) Do NOT open the shared drive by double-clicking it.
*) Make sure that Reconnect at Logon is checked and then choose the Finish
or the Next button.
..................................................................
Next add the Icons to the other computers' Desktop
Open the My Computer section, Open the network drive (such as F: or
G: as selected above) The network drive may appear as something like
C on Server (F:)
*) Open the Complink.js folder locate the file JSICONS or JSICONS.BAT
This is a file - not a folder. Double click it to install 2 icons
on the desktop. A black screen will appear and disappear
*) On the main Windows desktop, right-click the Shop-Pro icons and choose
Properties, Program, Working and change the first letter in the
Working box from C: to F: (or G: or H: etc whatever drive letter
you mapped above) Leave the remaining part such as \complink.js
or \complink.js\data.js
*) Repeat the above step for the JS-MENU icon.
