FIXING FILE-HANDLES ERRORS IN WINDOWS MILLENNIUM EDITION

     ********************************************************

If you see a "File Handles" or "File Not Found" error message in some

screens in the Jewelry Shopkeeper/Pro with Windows ME you probably need

to fix a small File Handles problem with Windows ME.

(Note these steps are NOT for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP - they are just for

Windows ME.)

These steps are a bit technical so if you are not comfortable with these

instructions ask someone else to type them in.

Follow these steps to change the FILES setting:

Using a text editor edit the file   C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI  and

find the [386Enh] section and on the next line underneath that add

a line reading     PerVMFiles=125

(note the upper and lower case)

Then save and exit the file and reboot Windows.

-----------------------------------------------

If you don't know much about text editors - here's one example

of a text editor. Open an MS DOS prompt and type

EDIT   C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI   and press Enter

Find the line [386Enh] and move the cursor down to the next line and

press Enter to add a blank line and in the blank line type

PerVMFiles=125

Then click on File, Save, then click on File Exit and then type

EXIT at the DOS prompt then restart the computer
