Sliding Commissions Based on Discounts and Markup
** More and more jewelers are introducing commissions into
pay packages. It takes some care designing the right
structure and making the switch but the results can be
tremendous. A new feature in Version 9.6 gives you
another option in fine-tuning your structure. It allows
you to decrease commission percentages the higher the
discount given to the customer
** Note that even if you use the sliding commission feature,
you can still apply special commission rates to sales
individually or by inventory category or by sales person
etc.
This utility, COMABC, allows you to assign commission rates on a sliding
scale according to how profitable the sales items were. The higher the
profit, the higher the comission. Note that effectively this requires
revealing the cost of the items to the staff so they can calculate for
themselves the price/cost ratio and verify the comission rates. The utility
has to be run AFTER the sales are typed in - e.g. it should be run just
before running any commission report for the week or month. If you don't
run it, you'll see just the standard commissions assigned by the program
which are not sliding-scale commissions (although there are several
commission options built-in to the program.)

The utility BELOW, COMDIS, allows you to assign commission rates on a sliding
scale according to how much the items were discounted. The lower the discount
the higher the commission. This method does NOT require revealing the cost
of the items to staff because the cost nad profit are not involved. The
utility has to be run AFTER the sales are typed in - e.g. it should be run
just before running any commission report for the week or month. If you don't
run it, you'll see just the standard commissions assigned by the program.
